User guide

The analytical interface designed to search the database allows users to conduct basic searches and statistics by comparing subsets of variables that can be combined as required. It is not a mere digital catalogue of documents.

The tab SEARCHES includes three sections:

Search by Region: This tab allows the following types of searches to be performed: All of the documents and/or only the judicial documents related to a given range of dates can be searched for one region, for several regions, or for all regions.

Following the instructions in Help?

Search by Institutions: This tab allows a detailed analysis of the institutions filed in the database to be obtained. For example, the following are available:

a. View all the institutions within a given region, including the data for its judicial documentation with respect to all the documents from that institution, and the proportion of the judicial documents and all the documents within different date ranges.
b. Analyse each institution within each region, and the percentages of total documents and judicial documents within different date ranges.
c. Access by institution: the edition or editions used; the table of documents that have survived for each year; the texts of the judicial documents.

Following the instructions in Help?

Advanced Comparison: This tab allows either a region-based or an institution-based complex comparative analysis to be conducted.

Following the indications in Help this tool makes it possible to compare and visualize:

a. For each region, the number of judicial documents can be viewed and compared with that of the total number of documents. The total/judicial proportion within different date ranges can also be viewed and compared.
b. Different types of comparisons and graphs for the number of judicial documents versus the total number of documents for each institution can be made separately. The total/judicial proportion within different date ranges may also be viewed.
c. All the documents for a given region and the judicial documents from several institutions for that region may be viewed and compared within different date ranges.
d. This comparison can also be made between institutions from different regions. For example, the most important institutions from several regions can be compared.

See Help? on how to obtain different types of results.

The tab JUDICIAL CORPUS presents all the data related to the exercise of justice and forms of dispute resolution in the overall documentation, identified according to the criteria indicated in the Database Methodology section.

Follow the indications in Access to the texts downloads to get the full text of documents for each institution.

Searches by Word can be run on the whole corpus on digitised texts from this tab.
